In
the throes of modernization, the Barcelona of 1900 was buzzing with
energy and an unprecedented culture of leisure emerged. The city’s
residents made full use of their free time, forging relationships with
one another through a highly varied range of initiatives and activities,
taking advantage of existing opportunities and creating new ones.
In addition to the traditional celebration of civic festivals, popular
meals and various types of processions, innovative new forms of cultural
consumption sprang up to satisfy all tastes and budgets. Numerous
cinemas opened, the first amusement parks threw open their gates and new
theatres raised their curtains. Thanks to these developments, the
vicinity around the avenue Paral·lel became the epicentre of Barcelona
nightlife.
This book offers a panoply of images of the diversions, entertainments
and hobbies of that fascinating era of contrasts, the
turn-of-the-century Barcelona of Modernisme.
Acaba d'aparèixer el llibre Pensar i interpretar l'oci. Passatemps, entreteniments, aficions i addiccions a la Barcelona del 1900, coordinat per Teresa-M Sala i primer volum de la nova col.lecció Singularitats.
Cal recordar que a finals del XIX i inicis del XX, existia una Barcelona "canalla" (i no només al famós Paral.lel) que -en això- era meca, capital i model europeu i mediterrani.
A "Reflexió macrofilosòfica sobre la societat de l'oci, del consum, de l'espectacle i del coneixement" de Gonçal Mayos i Teresa-M Sala, es donen algunes claus d'aquestes realitats contemporànies, íntimament vinculades i inseparables (encara que pugui sorprendre) .
A "Oci una genealogia macrofilosòfica" de G. Mayos s'analitza l'origen de l'oci en la Grècia clàssica en íntima vinculació amb l'esclavitud i el patriarcalisme. Però també inseparable de la intensa vida de la "polis" greca. Així l'oci, i l'educació (scholé) i la filosofia, apareixen com a "di-versió" i "dis-tracció" de certs ciutadans, que són criticats per apartar-se de la constant vigilància dels assumptes públics "polítics". També s'hi apunten alguns contrastos decisius amb la situació actual.
